Lois Ann Martin, 75, of Belle Haven, VA, formerly of Hedrick, passed away June 25, 2018.
She was born January 2, 1943 in Ottumwa to Glenys and Eddyth Thomson Rice. Raised on a farm near Hedrick, Lois was a 1961 graduate of Farson High School and attended the University of Northern Iowa.
Lois married William "Bill" Martin on December 27, 1961 and he preceded her in death on December 18, 2000. She assisted her husband, Bill, starting and operating many successful businesses. Her interests and hobbies included genealogy, home design and gardening.
After her husband's passing, she worked at McGregors Furniture in Ottumwa and was a sales agent for AFLAC Insurance. After moving to the eastern shore of Virginia, she worked at Meyers & Tabakin Furniture in Onley, VA and served as Secretary of the Town of Onley Planning Commission and the Society for the Preservation of the Onley Train Station (SPOTS).
Surviving are her children, Dr. Susan Martin (A.R. Ashby Jr.) of Exmore, VA, Timothy Martin of Sheldon, IA and Dr. Callan Martin of Overland Park, KS; a grandson, Andrew Ashby of Exmore, VA; sister, Glenda Sieren of Hedrick; four nieces and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Lynn and Clarence Allen Rice.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at Reece Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery near Martinsburg.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Friday with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.
