Lois L. McInerney, 96, of Ottumwa, died at 12:30 a.m. January 5, 2018 at Good Samaritan Society - Ottumwa.
She was born June 11, 1921 in Glenwood, MO, to Ace and Bertha Montgomery Saulsbury. She married Donald R. McInerney on September 26, 1942. He preceded her in death August 8, 2013.
A resident of Ottumwa most of her life, she graduated from Lancaster High School in 1940 where she played basketball. She had worked at John Morrell & Co. during WW II, was a homemaker and worked the farm fields with her husband. She gardened, canned, and cooked great meals for her family, especially for holiday events. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, bowling, traveling, reading and visiting an occasional casino. All her family and friends love her deeply and will greatly miss her presence.
She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Surviving is a daughter, Ann Cullinan and a son, Mike McInerney, both of Ottumwa; four grandchildren, Chris (Sara) Cullinan, Hollie (Phil) Nord both of Urbandale, Michelle (Joe) DeGabriele of Cedar Falls and Lisa Kauffold of Ottumwa and eleven great grandchildren; two sisters, Cleta Cassidy of Rockford, IL and Rita (Billy) Brunk of Lancaster, MO; a brother, Jim (Eleanor) Saulsbury of Rockford, IL; sisters-in-law, Ethel Saulsbury of Lancaster, MO, Vera Saulsbury of Rockford, IL and Jean Saulsbury of West Frnakfort, IL; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Edna and Patsy Saulsbury, Esther Chenoweth and Elizabeth "Betty" Jackson; five brothers, Ermin, Calvin, Enoch, Bobby, and Tommy Saulsbury.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Patrick Hilgendorf presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Sunday at Reece Funeral Home. A Christian Wake service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday followed by the family present until 4 p.m.
