Loran Raymond Benge, 99, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away on February 7, 2018 at the Bloomfield Care Center. He was born August 10, 1918 in Davis County, Iowa to Dossie and Leatha Galpin Benge. He married Nellie Ruth Thompson on June 1, 1938 in Kirksville, Missouri. She passed away on December 19, 2008.
Loran was a farmer and worked for John Morrells in Ottumwa. He also raised sheep and was a pioneer in Davis County in multiple birth sheep. Loran was active in soil conservation in Davis County, was a 4-H leader while his children were young, and was a member of the Moulton Christian Church. After retiring, Loran and Nellie spent winters in Mission, Texas.
He is survived by four sons, Phillip (Phyllis) Benge of Tipton, Iowa, Ronald (Colette) Benge or Marshalltown, Iowa, Roger (Carolyn) Benge of West Liberty, Iowa, Gordon Benge of Clarence, Iowa; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Lowell Benge; and two sisters, Cleo Mae Kaller and one in infancy.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Kramer Smith officiating. Burial will be at the Pierce Cemetery in Davis County. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday with the family present to greet friends from noon until the time of the service. A memorial has been established to the Pierce Cemetery.
