Louise Barcus, 91, of Ottumwa, died at 9:28 a.m. June 19, 2017 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
She was born January 23, 1926 in Ottumwa to Jess and Lillie Taylor Chance. She married the love of her life, Robert L. "Bob" Barcus on September 28, 1946 and he preceded her in death on April 3, 2000.
A resident of Ottumwa all of her life, Louise had attended secretarial school and had worked for Dr. Winger, Dr. Jerry Gibson and Osco Drug.
She was a founding member of Bethany Baptist Church and was a member of Iowa Southern Utilities Wives and volunteered at Agassiz Elementary school. Louise loved God, people and all animals, but especially loved her family, both close and extended. She was a kind and gentle person to all, fiercely independent from age 16. Louise made everyone feel special and beautiful and you could feel her love. She lived her life simply, took joy in simple things and could make something beautiful out of nothing.
Louise is survived by her daughter, Linda (Donald) Prox of Ottumwa; a granddaughter, Starr (Fletcher) Person of Ottumwa, Stacy Beeler (Paul) Conradt, who was like a granddaughter; two great-grandchildren, Sullivan and Finnegan; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Roxanne (Dan) Burtlow.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Dorlese Gilbert and Ruth Williams; two brothers, Clay and Keith Chance.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Marty Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Wednesday with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
