Manley C. Thompson, 72, of Ottumwa, died November 21, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.
He was born October 17, 1945 in Ottumwa to Mandel and Helen Hoskins Thompson.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School, Manley served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam Conflict. He worked for Northwestern Bell and U. S. West for 25 years, retiring in 1998.
Surviving are nieces and nephews, Marla (Kevin) Love of Kernersville, NC, Mark Thompson, Michele Perdue and Lori (Chester) Funk all of Ottumwa, Melynda McFarling of Des Moines; 22 great-nieces and nephews; 18 great-great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Melvyn "Butch" Thompson; a sister, Bonnie Field; a niece and nephews, Stephen Field, Daniel Field, Dena Field and Russell "Rusty" Field.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with Chaplain Doug McAntire officiating. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
