Marilyn J. Hutton Toomey, 83, of Ottumwa, died at 11:20 p.m. September 15, 2017 at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
She was born January 14, 1934 in Ottumwa to Glen and Ollie Bennett Hutton. She married Chuck Toomey on December 16, 2011.
Marilyn attended Parsons College, graduated with a B.S. from Northwest Missouri State University and a M.A. from Northeast Missouri State University. She taught in elementary schools in Missouri, Iowa and Colorado and returned to live in Ottumwa in 1986. She and her husband Chuck enjoyed traveling.
Surviving are her husband; two step- daughters Tammy (Darin) Delker and Tracie (Carl) Gamble both of Ottumwa; six step-grandchildren and four step great grandchildren; cousin and close friend Gelene Stevens of Ankeny; cousins Dale L. (Mary Rae) Cowles of Bellevue, Wash. and Doyle L. (Lori M.) Cowles of Dubuque; a dear friend, Ferol Chisman of Ottumwa.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will begin after 11 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church.
