Marjorie Lois Houston, 88, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2018, at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center, IA. Memorial services will be held 2 PM Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Iles-Brandt Chapel in Dallas Center. Private inurnment will be at Brethren Cemetery near Dallas Center at a later date.
Marjorie was born August 29, 1929, in Jefferson, IA, to Enos and Ruth (Jenison) Cirksena. She married Wendell Houston on May 8, 1949, in Perry, IA and made their home in Dallas Center where they raised their four children. Besides being a homemaker most of her life, she worked at First Assembly of God headquarters bookstore for many years.
Marjorie was active in her church, serving as superintendent of the Sunday School department, teaching vacation bible school and AWANAS. Her faith was very important to her. She enjoyed sending greeting cards and corresponding with numerous friends and missionaries all over the world.
Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Kathi (James) Koenig of Des Moines, IA and son, Rick E. (Cheryl) Houston of Ottumwa, IA; ten granddaughters, three grandsons, ten great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell, her children, Karen Houston-Thill and Gene Houston, her parents, and brother, Don Cirksena.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm Tuesday, July 10, at Iles-Brandt Chapel in Dallas Center. Contributions may be made to Spurgeon Manor. Online condolences will be welcomed at IlesCares.com.
