Mary Ellen Cooper Mary Ellen Cooper, 85, of Ottumwa died at 6:22 p.m. December 1, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
She was born July 15, 1933 in Ottumwa to Clyde and Thelma Venator Davis. She married Gregg Orman and later divorced. She married Willis "Bill" Cooper and later divorced.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1951, she worked at Molly's, St. Joseph Hospital, for SIEDA and Ralston Purina, retiring in 1995. She later worked as an associate for Ottumwa Schools.
Mary Ellen had been a member of Davis Street Christian Church. She helped organize the Jefferson School reunion and the Ralston Purina reunion. She enjoyed music, watching Turner Classic Movies and especially shopping. Most importantly she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Surviving is a son, David (Mary) Orman of Ottumwa; 5 grandchildren, Michael, Lindsay, David Christopher (Jo Anna), Amber and Bobby Orman; two great- grandchildren, Gabriela and Asher; a step-daughter, Judy (Mike) Kandrac of Grand Prairie, TX; a step-granddaughter, Tracy Grooms of Grand Prairie, TX; siblings, Sandy Findley of Ottumwa, Dave (Vera) Draper of Eagle Rock, MO, Diane (Jess) Chavez of Hiawatha, IA, and Cindy Colby of White Hall, WI; a sister-in-law, Jane Draper of Ottumwa; and a good friend, Harry McVey.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a step-granddaughter, Kelly Jo Blas; siblings Denny Draper, Herbert Draper, Martha Potter, and Clyde "CJ" Davis; a sister-in-law, Margaret Davis; a significant other, Alvin Harmon and her dog, Wrigley.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Jeremy Skinner officiating. Cremation will follow the service.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorials may be made to Heartland Humane Society or Good Samaritan Society - Ottumwa.
