Mary Margaret Hannam, age 97, of Albia, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia, with her granddaughter, Megan, by her side. Mary was born on December 3, 1920, on the family farm in Melrose, IA, to Michael D. and Helen (Feehan) Sullivan. She grew up and attended school in Melrose, graduating from the Melrose High School with the Class of 1939. On January 30, 1940, she was united in marriage to John Joseph Hannam at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Melrose. She and John enjoyed nearly 75 years of marriage prior to his passing on December 25, 2014. Mary loved to work. She kept an immaculate home and loved to do yard work. She also held several jobs outside of the home over the years. She was a lifetime member of the St. Patricks Catholic Church in Melrose, as well as a member of the St. Patricks Altar and Rosary Society. She moved to Albia in 2014 and was welcomed into the St. Marys parish with open arms. Mary was a gentle woman who spent her life taking care of her family and now the Lord will take care of her. Mary is survived by a daughter, Carol (Mike) Cosgrove of Albia; two grandchildren, Megan (Bill) Wilson of Albia and Michael (Sherry) Cosgrove of Ottumwa; 6 great-grandchildren, Chris (Charity) Ramirez, Josh (Emily) Ramirez, Mariah (Ethan Askland) Leshen, Tony Leshen, Gage Leshen and Isabella Wilson; 10 great-great grandchildren, Calista, Meghan, Matthew, Diana, Emma, Madelyn, Mason, Myles, Cailin, and Logan; and a sister, Helen Thode of Ottumwa. Mary is also survived by special friends, Cindy Mason and Emmalee Kerber; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Hannam; her parents, Michael D. and Helen; her sister and brother-in-law, Marge and Bill Davis; her brother-in-law, George Thode; and her brother and sister-in-law, Vince and Mary Scieszinski. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. ~ 11:00 a.m.; Saturday, February 24, 2018, at St. Marys Catholic Church in Albia, with Marys family present. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday February 24, 2018, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia, with Fr. Michael E. Volkmer C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Melrose. A memorial has been established to St. Marys Catholic Church in Albia or St. Patricks Catholic Church in Melrose.
