Mary M. Milani entered into eternal rest at home on August 1, 2017 at the age of 83. Mary was the wife of James G. Milani, Centerville, Iowa.
She was born in Iowa City on November 10, 1933, the daughter of Hazel (Ott) and Walter Hauer. She spent her early years in Sheldon, Iowa. Mary graduated from Sheldon Public Schools, where she was involved in many activities, and was Salutatorian of her class. She graduated from The University of Iowa, with a double major in Speech Pathology and Audiology and Elementary Education. She later received an M.A. from Drake University. While at U of I, she was a member and president of Delta Gamma Sorority, as well as a member of The Scottish Highlanders. Mary taught school in Iowa City and later in Centerville. She also spent 25 years of her life as a Speech-language Pathologist, working for the AEA in the Centerville area.
Mary was united in marriage to James G. Milani on January 30, 1955 in Iowa City, Iowa. From this union, three children were born, Greg, Molly and Jim.
Mary was involved in many organizations, including PEO, Garden Club, Outlook Study Club, and the Centerville Schools Foundation. She was active in the First United Methodist Church, where she was president of the United Methodist Women for several years. She, along with her husband, was honored by the community as Citizens of the Year in 1999-2000. Although Mary was not a Centerville native, she loved the community and her many friends and family here. She enjoyed entertaining. Their home on Drake Avenue and the farm were often the scene of many gatherings. Mary will be remembered by her husband's law class as the instigator of many reunions following their graduation from Law School in Iowa.
Mary loved her family. One of her greatest joys was having the cousins and family all together. They enjoyed Lake Okoboji, and later Rathbun Lake as a family. Her grandchildren will remember "Cousin Camp" at their farm near Rathbun Lake.
Mary is survived by her husband, Jim; her three children, Greg (Ann) Milani, Molly Revers and Dr. Jim Milani (Marty); her grandchildren, Joe Milani, Jim Milani, Sarah Revers Lind (Pete), Matthew Revers, Maggie Milani, Katie Milani and John Milani.
