Mec's Story

Mec Earl Cremer, 89, of Ottumwa and originally of Agency, died November 17, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.
He was born August 7, 1928 in Agency to Moss and Lena McLean Cremer. He married Norma E. Redmon and they later divorced.
A graduate of Agency High School in 1946, Mec was a paratrooper in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was awarded a Purple Heart.
Mec worked for a short time at John Deere Ottumwa Works, and then worked for 32 years for the U.S. Postal Service. He retired as Superintendent of Mail of the Ottumwa Post Office in 1989.
He was a member of O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and served on the Wapello County Veterans Affairs Board. Mec was a volunteer driver transporting veterans to their appointments at the VA Hospital. He was an avid and rare Iowa Hawkeyes fan who also cheered for Iowa State and UNI. He also was a Chicago Cubs fan. He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather who loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He also enjoyed walking in Ottumwa Park and playing cards.
Surviving are his sons, Ron (Maddie) Cremer of Clive, Tom (Pam) Cremer of Ottumwa and Moss (Rebecca Haller) Cremer of Denver, CO; 4 grandchildren, Justin (Signe) Cremer, Alison (Joe) Wiley, Benjamin Cremer and Shawn Cremer; 5 great-grandchildren, Teis, Eline, Henry, Harrison and Aaliyah; a brother, Charles "Chod" Cremer of Agency and a sister, Margaret Guenther of Santa Fe Springs, CA.
He was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Dean, Richard, Roy and Duard Cremer; 3 sisters, Madelyn Dart, Fara Cremer and Myrna Rullman.
His body has been cremated.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Jeremy Skinner officiating. Inurnment will be in Agency Cemetery with military services conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Visitation with the family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
