Melvin Lee Surber Jr. of Salem, Arkansas, formerly of Ottumwa, died Thursday, August 17, 2017, at the home of his fiancé in Auburn, Maine. He was born Oct.10, 1969, in Ottumwa, the son of Melvin Lee Surber Sr. and Violet Collier, both of Ottumwa.
Melvin married Jenni Rupe April 9, 1991, and later divorced. Later he married Tiffany Barnett April 15, 2000, and later divorced.
Melvin enjoyed playing games on his computer and on his Xbox 360. He loved going fishing, camping and watching movies. Melvin loved hugging everyone and getting hugged.
Surviving are his mother, Violet Collier and brother Patrick Surber, both of Viola, Arkansas, and a half brother, Kirk Smith of Cedar Rapids; a goddaughter, Christina Parks of Albia, his fiancé Tammy Swan of Auburn, Maine, and by several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Lee Surber Sr.; his grandmothers, Alma Surber and Wyneta Pickrell; five uncles, George Surber, Johnny Surber, Bill Surber, Joe Collier, all of Ottumwa, and Greg Taylor of Knoxville.
