Mildred's Story

Mildred Irene Wilkinson, 90, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away on February 26, 2018 at the Bloomfield Care Center in Bloomfield. She was born March 11, 1927 in Davis County, Iowa to Leo and Ivah Tomlin Taylor. She married William Bill Bailey on April 20, 1946 in Drakesville, Iowa. To this union three sons were born; Gary, Dean, and Roger. Bill passed away on June 8, 1980. Mildred later married Marvin Wilkinson on November 9, 1985 in Drakesville. Marvin passed away on August 12, 2005.

Mildred was a farmwife and worked as a substitute cook for Davis County Schools for many years. She enjoyed cooking and was famous within her family for her fried chicken, meatloaf, angel food cake, and various pies including apple and blueberry. She loved her spending time with her family and cooking for them. Mildred stayed busy over the years with embroidery work, crocheting and quilting. She also enjoyed going fishing, attending the Drakesville Music Festival, and playing cards with her friends.

Mildred was a long-time member of the Drakesville United Methodist Church.

She is survived by three sons, Gary Bailey of Pulaski, Iowa, Roger (Debbie) Bailey, Dean (Kris) Bailey both of Bloomfield, five grandchildren, Michael (Andrea) Bailey, Jennifer (Tim) Masek, Scott (Megan) Bailey, Hilary (Dan) Lucas, Curtis (Molly) Bailey; eleven great-grandchildren, Garrett, Griffin, Dylan, Grace, Rebekah, Aubrey, Zachary, Emma, James, Amber, Sadie; brother, Laverne (Carol) Taylor of Bloomfield; and a sister, Donna Lawson of Moulton, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; daughter-in-law, Lorrie Bailey; grandchildren, Adam Bailey, Michelle Bailey; and four siblings, Ralph Taylor, Maxine Livingston, Rexine Robinson, and infant Robert Taylor.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the Drakesville United Methodist Church with Rev. John D. Boatman officiating. Burial will be at the Drakesville Cemetery in Drakesville. Visitation with family present to greet friends will be on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Memorials have been established to the Davis County Old Soldiers and Settlers Reunion in Drakesville and the Drakesville United Methodist Church.
