Otis Wendell Dearborn

Otis Wendell Dearborn, 90, of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away on September 9, 2018 at Good Samaritan Society Ottumwa. He was born November 25, 1927 on the family farm in Davis County to Clay and Pearl Bolwar Dearborn. He graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1945 and on July 9, 1952, he married Martha Jane Cloyd at the First Baptist Church in Ottumwa.

Otis served in the Marines for two years. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton in California and also served time in the Korean War as a tank operator. Nine months after he returned from the service he contracted polio. After several months in the hospital he recovered enough to return home to family and farming. He spent most of his life farming and also drove a school bus for Davis County Schools for 12 years. He enjoyed his years of farming and greeting the students as they boarded the school bus each morning and afternoon.

He is survived by his wife; four children, Cherie (Charles) Luers of Norwalk, Iowa, John Dearborn, Linda (Gary) McConnell, Mark (Paula) Dearborn all of Bloomfield; three grandchildren, Marcus Dearborn of Ottumwa, Iowa, Matt (Chelsea) Dearborn, Mackenzie (Jon) Teubel both of Bloomfield; and three great-grandchildren, Scarlett and Scout Dearborn, Millie Rose Teubel.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Verna (Devere) Coffman, Beulah (Kenneth) Smith, Blanche (Homer) Stufflebeam, Ralph (Jeanette) Dearborn.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. Tim Frasher officiating. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Graveside military rites will be performed by Reed-Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday with the family present to greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
