Ralph E. Schlotter, 91, formerly of 173 E. Rochester, died at 2:50 p.m. July 10, 2017 at Ridgewood Specialty Care in Ottumwa.
He was born May 11, 1926 in Ottumwa to Russell and Mamie Tedrow Schlotter. He married Colleen Ulrich on July 7, 1946 and she preceded him in death on October 4, 2015.
Ralph was a World War II veteran having served with the U.S. Navy.
He worked in gas stations in Fairfield and Ottumwa for a short time and then worked 32 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring in 1982.
Ralph and his wife, Colleen, were foster parents.
He was a member of Davis St. Christian Church.
Surviving are his children, Glenn (Melanie) Schlotter of Loveland, CO, Russ (Tricia) Schlotter of Eddyville, Patricia Schlotter of Ottumwa and Sharon (Jeff) Christenson of Elgin, IL; 4 grandchildren 3 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Keith and Marvin Schlotter and son-in-law, Mike Kentfield.
Private graveside services and burial will be held at Shaul Cemetery with Pastor James H. Wakelin officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Care Initiatives Hospice or Prairie Hills Assisted Living.
