Robert M. Barker, 84, of Ottumwa, died at 4:38 a.m. January 31, 2017 at Select Specialty Hospital of Des Moines.
He was born January 14, 1933 in Aurora, IN to Lee Arthur and Stella Robbins Barker. He married Loretta E. Long on February 14, 1949 and she preceded him in death on July 26, 1992.
Robert had worked at John Morrell & Co. and owned and operated Barker Construction Co. He was a member of the Carpenters Union Local #767.
He had a love for music and in the 70's and 80's had a band called "Bob Barker and the Country Rocks". He enjoyed restoring classic cars, going to auto shows and the casinos and spending time with his family.
Surviving is a son, Richard (Diane) Barker of Knoxville, IL; two daughters, Crystal (Gary) Pherigo of Galesburg, IL and Tammy (Dave) Loerzel of Ottumwa; 9 grandchildren, Cheri Woodsmall, Melissa Derham, Bobby Barker, Billie Jo Sterr, Brandi Linville, Stacie Thompson, Tanya Carr, Tiffany Miner, Mariah Silvers; 21 great-grandchildren, Ashley Goodwin, Madison Wilkinson, Taylor Woodsmall, Morgan Woodsmall, Brett Long, Bradley Long, Tanner Barker, Trenton Barker, Brianna Pherigo, Shelby Linville, Autumn James, Sarah Linville, Cassie James, Cameron Thompson, Connor Sterr, Addisyn Honeyman, Luxy Horn, Jack Carr, Max Carr, Jase Carr, Briella Miner; four great-great-grandchildren, Allyson Lewis, Kallan Force, James Long, Chevy Barker; a brother, Charles (Mary) Barker of Ottumwa; and his companion of 20 years, Frances Blew.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Clayton; a sister, Crystal Benham; three brothers, Clyde, William and Ivan Barker.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor David Albert officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Thursday with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
