Robert E. Spilman, 90, of Hedrick died at March 31, 2017 at his home in Hedrick.
He was born October 31, 1926 in Farson, IA to James and Novenda Molesworth Spilman. He married Norma J. Harkins on April 27, 1957. She preceded him in death on October 23, 1996.
A graduate of Farson High School in 1944, he served in the U.S. Army during WW II with the 13th Engineer 7th Division in Korea.
He and his wife owned and operated Spilman's Drive-in Restaurant from 1965-78. He worked at Ideal Ready Mix 27 years, retiring in 1982.
He was a member of Hedrick Christian Church where he served on the board and as an Elder. He was a 70 year member and past commander of Arendt-Bowlin-Stubbs Post #83 American Legion where he served on the firing squad and a member of Walter B. Schafer Post #775 of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member and past master of Garfield Masonic Lodge #485 of Hedrick and presently a member of Justice Masonic Lodge #230 of Ollie and member of Davenport Consistory.
Bob served on the Hedrick City Council and as mayor of Hedrick. He served with the Hedrick Volunteer Fire Dept, worked with Boy Scouts and Little League Baseball.
Surviving are a son, Michael E. (Ann) Spilman of Hedrick; two daughters, Vicki (Ron) Ebelsheiser of Casa Grande, AZ and Roxanne (Ed) Mosbey of Hedrick; a son-in-law, Ross Breon of Hedrick; 14 grandchildren; 28 great- grandchildren and 10 great- great- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death his parents; a daughter, Janice Breon; a granddaughter, Brenda Ebelsheiser and a sister, Ruth Spilman.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastors Bill Hornback and John Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Brooks Cemetery of Hedrick.
Visitation begins after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday followed by family visitation until 8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Arendt-Bowlin-Stubbs Post #83 American Legion, Hospice of Mahaska County or Hedrick Christian Church.
