Robert E. Weirbach, 90, of Ottumwa died at 11:45 p.m. December 22, 2017 at Vista Woods Care Center.
He was born November 11, 1927 in Ottumwa to Edward Ray and Leora Given Weirbach. He married Dorothy Buffington September 27, 1947 and later divorced. He married Phyllis Terrell May 17, 2003.
Robert served in the Coast Guard during World War II, serving in the European Theatre from 1948 to 1949. He celebrated a special birthday on November 11, 1944 while in the Coast Guard.
He worked 36 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring as General Supervisor in 1983.
He was a member of O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion in Ottumwa, transferring his membership to American Legion in Urbandale. He was also a member of Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #114 and was a motorcycle Dirt Track Champion and owner of Bob Weirbach Racing for many years.
Surviving is his wife, Phyllis; two sons, Michael (Betty) Weirbach of North Port, FL and Roger (Glenda) Weirbach of Ottumwa; a daughter, Deborah Clair of Colo, IA; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; two sisters, Norma and Jeannie of Fairfield and a brother, Dick of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Shirley.
His body has been cremated and memorial services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice serving Davis and Wapello Counties or Heartland Humane Society.
