Rodney Eugene Douthart, 71, of Floris, died at 8:25 p.m. November 20, 2017 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
He was born October 4, 1946 in Fairfield to Ralph E. and Dorothy Lorraine Puffinbarger Douthart. He married Toni M. Giberson on July 24, 1976.
A 1966 graduate of Davis County High School, Rodney served with the U.S. Air Force from 1966-1970. He was stationed at Clark AFB in the Philippines working as an airplane mechanic. Rodney worked for Everco for several years and then for Hormel and Cargill Meat Solutions, retiring in 2013 after 20 years.
He attended the Floris Baptist Church. Rodney loved working with wood, gardening and studying history. He had a soft heart for animals, having a pet cow and 2 cats, Spot and Grasshopper.
Surviving is his wife, Toni; a daughter, Melissa Douthart (Darren Blaha) of Oskaloosa; a brother, Michael (Lorraine) Douthart of Floris; a sister, Debbie (Robert) Campbell of Floris; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Maxine Giberson.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Burial will be in Floris Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Monday with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday.
