Rose Mary's Story
Rose Mary Stewart, 90, of rural Ottumwa, died October 4, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.
She was born November 22, 1926 in Kirkville, IA to Fred and Gladys Mae Shaw Johnston. She married Rex Stewart on June 7, 1952.
Rose Mary was a graduate of Eddyville High School and had earned her teaching certificate. She had taught in Chillicothe and New Sharon.
At a younger age, she was a member of Eddyville Methodist Church and was a member of Christiansburg United Methodist.
Rose Mary enjoyed working the elections and helping her husband farm.
Surviving is her husband, Rex; her children, Mike Stewart of Ottumwa, Tim (Tammy) Stewart of Ottumwa, Mary Stewart of Salt Lake City, UT, Jon (Stephanie) Stewart of Cumming and Rebecca (Steve) Washler of Cedar Rapids; daughter-in-law, June Stewart of Ottumwa; 5 grandchildren, Angela (Mitch) Dotson, Ashley (David) Hunt whom she rarely missed an evening speaking with on the phone, Amanda (Wes) Konrad who was very special to her, Sarah Washler, Molly Washler; 4 great- grandchildren, Ella, Madison, Mason and Quintin.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Samuel J. Stewart and Stevie Stewart; daughter-in-law, Kathy Stewart; brothers, George, Gene, Clark and Stanley and several half-brothers and half-sisters.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation is open after 11 a.m. Sunday. The family will be present one hour prior to the service.
Memorials may be made to Christiansburg United Methodist Church.
