Ruth  Exline


Ruth Janietta Exline, 101, of Ottumwa died at 10:27 p.m. March 28, 2019 at her daughter's home in Des Moines.
She was born May 23, 1917 in Moulton, IA to Thurlo and Della Coleman King. She married Max Ivan Milton Exline January 2, 1937. He preceded her in death January 1, 1995.
Growing up in Iowa and Oklahoma, she lived in Ottumwa most of her life. Ruth had been a member of Riverview United Methodist Church and of the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed singing, sewing, embroidery, crocheting and decorating. She was an excellent cook and homemaker and loved all of her family.
Surviving are two daughters, Janietta Peek of Des Moines and Rev. Reva Kay (Tom) Rimmer of Cedar Rapids; a son, Max (Linda) Exline Jr. of Pueblo, CO; 14 grandchildren, Donald (Samran) Peek Jr., Andrea (Michael) Mitchell, Theresa (Kirby) Welch, Theandon (Eric) Johnson, Nathan (Karen) Peek, Nancy Rimmer (John) Hinkel and John (Kim) Rimmer; 40 great grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren; one great-great-great grandchild; a brother-in-law, Lyeal Amos of Oklahoma along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father and step-mother, Thurlo and Ella King; mother and step-father, Della and Charles Clawson; brothers, Arnold, Lowell Dale, James and Delmer King; sister, Rosella Townsend, great granddaughter, Cody Johnson; 2 great great great grandchildren; a son-in-law, Donald Peek; along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Philip Kramer of Norwoodville Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Visitation will be open after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the family present from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service.
Memorials may be made to Riverview Community Church.

Mrs. Exline was a great lady, enjoyed having her as a neighbor. She will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace. We will always cherished the memories we had with you.

I am the daughter or Lawrence and Phyllis King and was saddened to hear the news of Ruth's passing. I have fond memories of being at her home and family gatherings with King and Walker cousins. My prayers and blessings are with you and your family.
