Sister Ann Therese Collins CHM, 96 died on February 26, 2017 at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center, Johnston, IA. Services: Bishop Drumm, Our Lady of Peace Chapel on Thursday, March 2, 4 pm; Humility of Mary Center, Davenport: Friday, March 3: Rosary-Visitation, 4 pm; Vigil, 7 pm; Saturday, March 4, Mass of Christian Burial, 11 am, followed by interment, Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport.
Patricia Jeanine Collins was born April 6, 1920 in Des Moines, IA to Edward and Theresa Bongers Collins. In 1942 she entered the Congregation of the Humility of Mary, professing vows in 1944 as Sister Mary Ann Therese.
Sister completed her BA at Marycrest College, Davenport, IA and her MS at Creighton University, Omaha, NE with post-graduate work at ten universities.
Her teaching ministry in Iowa and Montana high schools, including Catholic Central in Ottumwa was usually in history, political science and Latin. She also taught at Ottumwa Heights College.
Sister served on numerous boards and committees over several decades, including St. Joseph Hospital, Ottumwa and then Ottumwa Regional Hospital as well as the Ottumwa Mayor's Advisory Committee. She was President of the Congregation of the Humility of Mary during their move from Ottumwa to Davenport.
In 1987 Sister Ann Therese retired to the Humility of Mary Center, but continued to teach Latin part-time at Assumption High School, assist at the Center for Active Seniors (CASI), and tutor at Sacred Heart School. In 2014, she moved to Bishop Drumm where she resided until her death.
She is survived by siblings Ann (Emmitt) Laursen and Mary Therese (Howard) Hamilton, several nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as the Sisters and Associates of her religious community. She was preceded in death by her parents.
