Thomas George Durbin, 84, of Hedrick died at 3:58 p.m. November 28, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
He was born January 31, 1933 in Bridgeport, MI to Paul and Marion Speace Durbin.
Growing up in Michigan he had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a pipeline engineer. He had worked for Dickey Transport in Packwood retiring in 2008.
He was a lifetime member of Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Thomas loved the Michigan Wolverines, spending time restoring his old Chrysler 300 and driving his Dodge Ram truck.
Surviving are three sons, Cole (Amy Jo) Durbin and Travis (Amy) Durbin both of Ottumwa and Paul (Crystal) Durbin of Fremont; a daughter, Shannon (Brian) Cupp of Pleasant Hill; eleven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; fiancé, Carole Longaker and a brother, Paul "Butch" Durbin of Roscommon, MI.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Carol Ann.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Hornback officiating. Cremation will follow the services. Graveside services and inurnment will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Brooks Cemetery near Hedrick with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday with the family present from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday.
