Trevor Stromgren

Trevor David Stromgren, 9, of Ottumwa, passed away at 10:14 a.m. Sunday September 9, 2018 at Blank Children's Hospital in Des Moines, IA from complications of pediatric cancer Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma.
Trevor passed quietly and without pain in the loving and comforting arms of his mother, Jennifer Stromgren and surrounded by his father, Brian Stromgren and brother, Cameron Stromgren. The caring and wonderful staff of Blank Children's Hospital were also present to assure Trevor's transition was calm and without fear.
Trevor was born May 18, 2009 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center in Ottumwa, IA and lived his life in the country between Ottumwa and Bloomfield where he was able to play, explore and ride his 4-wheeler.
Trevor was a free spirit who had a heart of gold. He was so excited for his first day of school this year at Davis County Elementary in Bloomfield because he missed his friends and teachers. The night before, he assembled gift bags for special friends and teachers which included gifts from his personal collection of McDonald toys. When he got to school, he took the time to personally deliver each and every gift bag. His friends meant the world to him. He was supposed to go to school for 2 hours because he was feeling weak, but insisted on spending the entire day. "Pick me up at the bus stop." He told his mom when she went to get him after 2 hours.
Trevor was a collector of quality toys and cherished his assortments of McDonald's toys, teddy bears, Legos and golfer bobble heads. He absolutely loved flea markets, thrift stores and yard sales. He was a toy bargain hunter and may have bordered on being a toy hoarder.
He was very smart with a very quick wit. Trevor would often have an immediate and hilarious comeback to someone's comments. He was also beginning to show an inherited ability for math. Despite missing nearly half of the school year, he was able to finish 3rd grade caught up in reading and math with the rest of his class. He was a very fast learner.
Trevor loved his brother, Cameron, even though it was sometimes tough love. They certainly kept each other on their toes, but had each others back no matter what.
Trevor is survived by his mom, Jennifer Stromgren, who gave him his strength, his dad, Brian "Dusty" Stromgren and brother, Cameron Stromgren at home. Also surviving are an uncle David (Nancy) Stromgren of Ottumwa with whom he shared a birthday, grandmother, Debra Moore of Old Town, FL; cousins, Gretchen Lebeda, Kelly Welch, Jody Morris and Josh Johnson of Florida. He has many other aunts, cousins and other family members in Florida and elsewhere whom he all loved very much and loved him as well. Trevor also had a very special adopted Grandma, Sandi "Mama Mia" Tiegs of Ottumwa. Mama Mia was always a big part of both boys' life and taught them to look for rainbows whenever there was a storm. His best friend, Meri McGrath from the Ronald McDonald House. Trevor will also be missed by his German Shepherd "Branch, his black cat, "Shadow" and his guinea pig "Pretzel".
Trevor was greeted in Heaven by the open and loving arms of grandparents, Leonard and Betty Stromgren and aunt, Sharon Untiedt, who will most certainly make sure Trevor is never alone and will be surrounded by love.
His body has been cremated. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Davis County High School Gymnasium with Pastor Gary Brooks officiating.
The family will greet friends and family from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Per Trevor's wishes, please attend his service in your Team Trevor attire, and he said, "If you're going to cry, stay home."
