Vercil G. Woollums, 87, of Ottumwa passed peacefully of Friday January 26, 2018 at Hospice House.
He was born to Russell and Juanita Collett Woollums on April 24, 1930 in Wapello County. He married Margaret Davis of Blakesburg on October 20, 1950.
A lifetime resident of Ottumwa, Vercil worked at John Morrell & Co. 22 years followed by John Deere Ottumwa Works for 17 years, retiring in 1990. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church and also served on the Tenco Board. Vercil enjoyed antique cars, golfing, traveling, sports and most of all his family.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years; a son, Greg (Traci) of Minneapolis; daughters, Teresa (Jerry) Elsbernd of Minneapolis and Melinda (Tim) Williams of Central Florida; three grandsons, Matt, Nick and Sam Woollums and three granddaughters, Sarah (Dan) Olson, Megan Baker and Maggie Elsbernd. He is also survived by a brother, Warren Craig (Donna) Woollums of Albia; sisters, Pat Anderson of Ottumwa and Judy (Bob) Bequeaith of Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leroy, Edward, Bill and Jack Woollums and a sister, Wanda Selby.
His body has been cremated.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 30th at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jon Disburg officiating. Inurnment will be in Ottumwa Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church.
