Violet Mae Newquist, 89, of Ottumwa, died March 13, 2018 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
She was born March 16, 1928 in Ottumwa to Clarence and Freda Mae Smith Glenn. She married Kenneth E. Newquist on October 25, 1947 and he preceded her in death on July 8, 2013.
A 1946 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Violet Mae was a homemaker.
She was a member of North Court Baptist Church and Richland Homemakers.
Violet Mae is survived by her children, Diana (Perry) Parson, Sherelyn (James) Hornick and Shirley (Charles) Reid all of Ottumwa and Darrell Newquist of Ft. Madison; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Eileen (Rev. Ernest) DeWitt of Springfield, MO and Delta Leonard of Northglenn, CO.
She was preceded in death by three grandsons.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at North Court Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Hemmings officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation begins at noon Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to North Court Baptist Church, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Hospice serving Davis and Wapello Counties.
