Bernice Ann Harmon, 84, of Ottumwa, died at 3:10 a.m. May 21, 2017 at the Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center.
She was born April 26, 1933 in Albia to Louis and Marget Scully Kellogg. She married Raymond Shaw on April 29, 1951 and he preceded her in death in December of 1967. She married Forest Eugene Harmon in 1969 and he preceded her in death on February 12, 1996.
A resident of Ottumwa for the past 30 years, Bernice lived in several places including Albia for many years. She was the head cook at several nursing homes and also the Albia Country Club. She owned several bars and had worked at the A&W Root Beer in Ottumwa. Bernice and her husband, Gene, were foster parents.
She enjoyed cooking, sewing, attending auctions and casinos as well as taking care of her grandchildren and her beloved dog, Charlie.
Surviving are her children, Theresa Shaw of Ottumwa, Nancy Parker of Ottumwa, Sheila (Steve) Kono of Grimes, Raymond "John" (Barb) Shaw of Ottumwa, Allen Shaw of Ottumwa, Burley (Gayle) Harmon of Sully and Mike (Jackie) Kalar of Ottumwa; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Maryellen Kellogg, Marjorie Fisk and Virginia Kellogg; and a brother, William Kellogg.
She was preceded in death by a son, William Harmon; a great-grandson, Blake Nichols; 4 brothers, Orville, James, Jack and Louis "Butch" Kellogg Jr. and 2 sisters, Lula Mortley and Shirley Kellogg.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Cremation will follow the services.
Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Wednesday with the family present from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorials may be made to the family.
