Robert "Bob" P. Jay Sr., 86, of 12061 118th Ave. died at 9:11 a.m. January 22, 2017 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
He was born September 1, 1930 in Moulton to Art and Myrtle Davis Jay. He married Marie L. Bradshaw on October 24, 1956. She preceded him in death on November 21, 2008.
A graduate of Moulton-Udel High School, he served in the U.S. Army as a Tank Sergeant during the Korean War. Bob worked a short time at John Deere Ottumwa Works and then for 25 years at John Morrell and Co. until 1973. He then returned to John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring in 1994.
He was a member of First Pentecostal Assembly of God. He loved to camp, bowl and go for a walk. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving is a daughter, Dee Ann Hatland of Clarinda; a son, Robert (Annette) Jay Jr. of Ottumwa; 8 grandchildren, Ryan Croft, Amanda (Derek) Lawrence, Emily Croft, Kristopher Ennen, Caleb Ennen, Melissa (Walt) Willis, Katherine (Sean) Delahunt and Nathan Jay; 8 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gilbert Jay of West St. Paul, MN, Delbert Jay of Fredonia, IA; a sister, Elizabeth (Kenneth) Batterson of Drakesville, IA.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Andrew Jay; three sisters, Norene Bennett, Doris Whisler and an infant sister, Delores; a special friend, Phyllis Hendren.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Pentecostal Assembly of God with Pastor Richard Schlotter officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
