Bonnie Louise Garner, 91, formerly of Ottumwa, died at 3:37 p.m. February 27, 2017 at Crestview Acres in Marion.
She was born September 25, 1925 in Ottumwa, IA to Guy Cooper and Hazel Sedore Johnston Sr. She married Charles Ray Chilcote on November 13, 1945 in Oskaloosa and he preceded her in death on April 1, 1950. She married Floyd Harold Garner on June 30, 1952 in Bridal Cave in Lake of the Ozarks, MO and he preceded her in death on April 26, 1990.
A 1944 graduate of Kirkville High School, she had worked at John Morrell & Co. from 1945 to 1950. She owned and operated Bonnie's Hair Fashions from 1954 to 1974.
Bonnie was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, O.B. Nelson Unit #3 American Legion Auxiliary and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary. Bonnie was a member of TOPS for 31 years, serving as president for several terms. She participated in the Foster Grandparent program at Horace Mann School and Bridge of Hope from 2001 to 2010, was a member of the Quilting Club at the YWCA and a member of the Quilting Club and Friendship Club at South Oak Towers where she lived from 1990 to 2010. Bonnie had been a resident of Crestview Acres since 2010.
She enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling and Bluegrass festivals.
Surviving is her sister, Judy Carrie Kennedy of Marion; several nieces and nephews and a sister-in law, Betty Johnston.
She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Donald, Dale, Robert, Rex, Guy Jr. and Virgil Johnston.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Patrick Hilgendorf presiding. Burial will be in Drakesville Cemetery.
Visitation with the family present will be 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
