Charles Rex Hale, 88, of Agency, died at 8:12 p.m. April 6, 2017 at Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.
He was born April 4, 1929 in Floris to Floyd William and Etta Mae Bales Hale. He married Ena Faye Blythe on July 1, 1953 and she preceded him in death on April 13, 1987.
A graduate of Bloomfield High School, Charles had worked for 10 years at Phillip Morris, 29 years for Merchants Wholesale and 10 years at Arizona State University. He had lived in Arizona for the past 20 years, moving back to Ottumwa in February 2017.
He was a member of Davis Street Christian Church where he has served as an Elder and taught Sunday school, also a member of Empire Masonic Lodge #269 A.F. & A.M., Davenport Consistory and AARP. He had coached Pee Wee Little League and Babe Ruth and was a licensed umpire.
Surviving are his children, Gregory (Nini) Hale of Houston, TX, Jeffery (Toni) Hale of Agency, Melody (Elroy) Schlake of Thompson, IA, Markham (Barb) Hale of Milford, IA, Jon (Missy) Hale and Karla (Jerry) Van Ness both of Ottumwa; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Floyd (Carol) Hale Jr. of Floris and Dale (Margie) Hale of Tacoma, WA.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clinton, Carl and Frederick Hale; two sisters, Sarah Duncan and Mary Pominville.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. James H. Wakelin officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Tuesday. A Masonic service will be held at 6 p.m. followed by family visitation until 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Memorials may be made to Davis Street Christian Church or Care Initiatives Hospice.
