Dale W. Miller, 81, of Mt. Pleasant and formerly of the rural Fairfield, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2017, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.
Born Nov. 24, 1935, in rural Danville, he was the son of Wesley and Alice Rogers Miller. On Feb. 24, 1956, he married Merna R. Lee.
Mr. Miller was a farmer and sold real estate with Davis and Palmer, and later with Lefty's Real Estate, both of Fairfield. He sold crop insurance for Farmer's Mutual Hail Insurance Company for over 40 years. He sold seed corn for Lynks and Mycogen. He organized and was president of Jefferson County Chapter of the Iowa Soybean Association.
He was a 1954 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Bible Missionary Church, Jefferson County Pork Producers and Farm Bureau. He had a pilot's license and enjoyed flying, and he enjoyed reading and farming.
Survivors include his wife; four children, Merlin Miller, Mark Miller and DeRene Bromell, all of Fairfield, and Jolaine Comfort of Conway, Mo.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Anna Myers and Judy Gaylord, both of New London, and Joan Hesseltine of Tullahoma, Tenn.; three brothers, Larry Miller of Rock Island, Ill., John Miller of New London and Jerry Miller of Connersville, Ind.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and two brothers, one in infancy.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Murphy Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Miller will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant with the Revs. Rodger Moyer and Paul Miller officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Mount Pleasant.
A memorial has been established for Bible Missionary Church.
