Dean Halsey Prough, 95, of Ottumwa, died at 3 p.m. May 24, 2017 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
He was born July 7, 1921 in Wayne County, IA to Halsey Sutherland and Fern Elizabeth Richards Prough. On July 23, 1946 he married Doris M. Bunch.
Dean was a graduate of Ottumwa High School. He was a World War II Army veteran having served with the 5th Armored Division.
He worked for 37 years at Barker Poultry, retiring as general foreman in 1978.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, Empire Masonic Lodge #269 A.F. & A.M., O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and a former member of the Ottumwa Park Board.
Surviving is his wife, Doris; a son, Richard (Joyce) Prough of St. Robert, MO; Patricia (Mike) Colliflower who was raised in the home; a grandson, Frederick (Diane) Prough of Adel; 2 great-grandchildren, Nathan and Rachel Prough; 3 step-grandchildren, Rachel (Doug) McMahan, Erik (Juana) Saaranen, Anna Liisa (Curtis) Lundgren; 4 step-great-grandchildren, Alma Saaranen, Rauha Saaranen, Sonya Lundgren and Eli Lundgren.
He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Fern and Elmer Bradshaw.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O. B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Monday. A Masonic service will be 3 p.m. Monday followed by family visitation until 5 p.m. Monday.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or American Heart Association.
