Dennis's Story

Text size

Dennis Wayne Moss, 61, of Ottumwa, passed away on May 10, 2017 at his home following a battle with cancer.
He was born June 4, 1955 to Bob and Barb Collins Moss. He married Nancy Thomas-Cook on November 9, 1991.
Dennis graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1974. He worked at Pester Derby for a short time while he was in high school. He went to work at Universal Rundle after graduation and remained there until the plant closed in 2009. Dennis worked there with many people who became very good lifelong friends. He worked in most of the departments in the plant, ending in the warehouse. Dennis also worked for Optimae Lifeservices for many years as a direct support professional, helping an individual with mental disabilities. He quit that job in June, 2016 when it was discovered that he had brain cancer.
Dennis enjoyed his family. He was a Nascar and NHRA fan. Dennis had a huge love of animals and through the years had a wide range of pets.
He enjoyed collecting things and going to flea markets. Dennis was a member of the coin club at one time. In recent years, he enjoyed going to James Elementary School to play kickball with the kids at lunch recess. His favorite thing was watching his family grow with each new grandchild.
Dennis leaves behind his wife, Nancy. They have three children, Jennifer (Craig) Orton of Edina, MO, Abby (Chris) Johnstone of Ottumwa, Iowa and Michael (Amy) Moss of Muscatine, Iowa. They have six wonderful grandchildren, Olivia, William, Jenna, Gavin, Paisley and Caleb. Dennis is also survived by his older brother, Bob Moss II of Ottumwa and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Byron Newland officiating. Cremation will follow the services.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Friday with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to James Elementary for playground equipment.
