Dick's Story

Richard "Dick" Peters, died April 18, 2017 peacefully in his sleep at his home in Brandon, SD. He was 87.
Richard Lee Peters was born January 9, 1930 in Abington, Iowa, to Hessel and Faith (Hudgel) Peters. Richard grew up in Ottumwa, Iowa and graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1947. While in high school he began working for Haw Hardware where he continued to work after graduation.
On February 14, 1958, he married Janice Moffett in Ottumwa. They had 3 children; Susan, Sandra and Jeffrey. In 1967, he began working for John Morrell Co. in Ottumwa and then in 1973 he transferred to the plain in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where he retired in 1995.
Richard was a long-time member of Faith United Church in Brandon serving as Clerk of Session for over 40 years. Richard was also a long-time member of the Brandon Lions Club and served on the Board of Education for the Brandon Valley School District for 7 years.
Grateful for having shared his life are his daughters, Susan (Brian) Mayer of Naperville, Illinois, Sandra Peters of Brandon, South Dakota and son, Jeffrey (Debra) Peters of Hartford, South Dakota; 7 grandchildren, Braden (fiancé MacKenzie Schwarz) Schultz of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Erin Schultz of Naperville, Illinois, Nathan (Anneliese) Schultz of Gold Canyon, Arizona, Logan Funke of Alexandria, South Dakota, Ethan Funke of Brandon, South Dakota, Brie Peters of Hartford, South Dakota and Gwen Peters of Hartford, South Dakota; sister, Marilyn Green of Glendale, Arizona; brother, John Peters of Mesa, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janice; a sister, Shirley; a brother, Dean; and son-in-law, Roger.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Faith United Church in Brandon, South Dakota. Visitation with a prayer service will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, April 21, 2017 at Faith United Church, Brandon, South Dakota.
Graveside services will be conducted by Reece Funeral Home at 11:00 am Monday, April 24, 2017 at Shaul Cemetery in Ottumwa, Iowa.
Memorials may be directed to Faith United Presbyterian Church, Brandon, SD.
