Edith Elnora Blomgren, age 99, of Albia, formerly of Lovilia, died on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at the Monroe Care Center in Albia.
She was born on April 5, 1918 in Mahaska County to Roy and Nellie (Cain) Scott. She attended Albia High School, and then received her teaching certificate. She later received her bachelor's degree from Drake University.
Edith married Elmer Keeton on September 28, 1941, and they were blessed with two children, Joe and Dennis. Elmer passed away on November 21, 1975. She later married Wilmer Blomgren on January 19, 1980. He later died on February 21, 1997.
She was a teacher. She started at a one room country school house and taught in Monroe, Marion, and Mahaska counties for many years. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the VFW Auxiliary. She was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Albia, and later she attended the Lovilia United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two children, Joe Keeton of Newton, and Dennis (Beth Ann) Keeton of Greensboro, NC; step children, Mary Sue Slay of Albia, Wilmer "Junior" Blomgren of Lovilia, Jerry Blomgren of Ottumwa, Sherry Clark of Centerville, Judy (Bill) Jones of Albia; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, seventeen step grandchildren, and many step great-grandchildren; and siblings, Charles (Rose Mary) Scott of Albia, Richard (Mary) Scott of Saucier, MS, Raymond (Emily) Scott of Cape Girardeau, MO, Alice Fontanel of Payson, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Nellie Scott, husband, Elmer Keeton, husband, Wilmer Blomgren, step-child, Sharon Speck, brother, Verdel Scott, sister, Mary Jane Kramer, and one step grandson, Kevin Bunch.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 1, 2017 at the Lovilia United Methodist Church with Rev. Raymond Doser officiating. There will also be an Eastern Star Service. Burial will follow services in Woodlawn Cemetery in Lovilia. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, opening to the public at 1:00 p.m., and family will be present to greet friends, from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday evening at Sinnott Funeral Home, Gilbert Chapel in Lovilia.
