Frank's Story

Frank E. Comstock, 92, of Eddyville, died at 9:57 a.m. May 14, 2017 at Ridgewood Specialty Care in Ottumwa.
He was born October 1, 1924 in Albia. He was adopted and raised by his maternal grandparents, Frank and Liz Comstock. He married Virginia M. Paxton June 2, 1964. She preceded him in death October 29, 1990.
A graduate of Albia High School, Frank served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He owned and operated with his brother, Greg, Comstock Saw Mill where they were partners for 52 years. A resident of Eddyville most of his life, he moved to Ottumwa in 1964, moving back to rural Eddyville in 1975.
He had been a member of the Eddyville Masonic Lodge #74 A.F. & A.M., Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling.
Surviving is his daughter, Sherry Good of Cedar Falls; 3 step-children, Larry Michael (Pat) Paxton of Ankeny, Roger Paxton of Gladstone, IL and Linda (Robert "Otis") Wallace of Ottumwa; 4 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 12 step-great grandchildren; 7 step-great great grandchildren; and his companion of 20 years, Betty Peck.
He was preceded in death by a step-son, Bill Paxton; a step-grandson, Chris Crumes; 4 brothers, George Williams, Joe Williams, Rex Williams and Greg Comstock.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Roger Henry officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
