Beulah Helen McElroy, 89, formerly of Ottumwa, died at 10:37 a.m. April 24, 2017 at Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.
She was born September 7, 1927 in Monroe County, IA to Herbert Walter and Elsie Marie Stansberry Dodge. She married Charles Russell "Rusty" McElroy on September 1, 1978 and he preceded her in death on July 24, 2009.
Helen was a 1947 graduate of Albia High School and had lived in Wapello County most of her life. She had worked in accounting for the City of Ottumwa, Zlogar Construction and Valley Supply.
She was a member of the Ottumwa Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Helen loved to crochet, work with ceramics, loved to go fishing with her husband and bird watching with putting up many bird houses. She enjoyed wintering in Texas.
Surviving is her son, Frederick Milton Fillmore of Minneapolis, MN; 2 grandchildren, Elizabeth Palmer of Minneapolis, MN and Andrew Fillmore of Columbia Heights, MN; and a sister, Jean Buwalda of Farmington, MN.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Clella Reynolds and Veda Speer and two brothers, Harold and Carol Dodge.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Elder Kenneth Tipton officiating. Cremation will follow the services. Inurnment will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
The family will be present one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
