James "Windy" Wendell Gould, age 87, of Ottumwa, died on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society, under the care of Good Samaritan Society Hospice.
He was born on September 12, 1929 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Charles Edward and Helen (VanHorn) Gould. After high school he entered the United States Air Force, and he had twenty-one years of service until retirement. He married Naomi Diehl on April 6, 1949, and they were blessed with one daughter, Lorrie. He worked for the Pentagon and the Defense Documentation Center as a computer scientist.
James was very active in the church. He and his wife enjoyed attending plays, shows, and musical events. He was a pilot, and very much enjoyed flying. He was a member of the Ottumwa Masonic Lodge 16, and he was Grand High Priest of the state of Iowa in 1991. He was a member of the New Lions Club of Ottumwa, and was also a long time member of the Ottumwa GOP, and was a past president of the Ottumwa GOP.
He is survived by his wife, Naomi Gould of Ottumwa, daughter, Lorrie (Charles) Klawonn of Ottumwa; three grandchildren, Dustin Klawonn of Fairfield, Krystal Klawonn of Ottumwa, Megan (Cole) Rutledge of Ottumwa, two great grandchildren, Isaac and Penny Rutledge. He is also survived by one brother, Evertt Gould of Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Edward and Helen Gould, and brothers, Lloyd Gould and Kenneth Gould.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 3, 2017 at 10:30 a.m., at Sinnott Funeral Home, 220 North Court, Ottumwa, Iowa. 52501 with Pastor Jim Wakelin officiating. There will also be Masonic Services conducted by Ottumwa Masonic Lodge 16. Burial will follow services in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa with military rites conducted by the American Legion and VFW of Ottumwa. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Sinnott Funeral Home in Ottumwa from 5-7 p.m. with James' family present. Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer's Association.
