James W. "Jim" McBee, 91, of Ottumwa, died at 6:05 a.m. June 23, 2017 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
He was born September 30, 1925 in Fayette, MO to Mac and Lula Kurtz McBee. He married Joan I. Kent on June 25, 1948 and she preceded him in death on July 13, 2009.
Jim was a graduate of Boonville High School where he served as president of the FFA.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in the South Pacific. Jim worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for 36 years, retiring as an engineer.
He was a lifetime member of O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion, a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #114 and B.P.O. Elks #347. Jim enjoyed playing cards, fishing and gardening.
Surviving are his children, Craig (Wendy) McBee of Bloomfield and Teresa (Clark) Brain of Hedrick; 6 grandchildren, Bo (Chelsie) McBee, Justin (Monica) McBee, Chris Brain, Bethany Brain, Amanda (Kevin) Eastlick and Zach (Chelsea) Brain and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mac McBee and Lula Creasy; a sister, Marie Rumburg and two brothers, Chuck "Buster" and Fred McBee.
His body has been cremated.
Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Military services will be conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Visitation with the family present will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
