Almon Junior Hare, 78, of Bloomfield died at 8:10 p.m. June 9, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
He was born December 10, 1938 in Oskaloosa to Almon Arthur and Veva Gertrude Stockdall Hare. He married Shirley M. Smith on February 14, 1959.
A graduate of Davis County High School in 1957, he had worked for John Deere Ottumwa Works for 30 years retiring in 1993. He was a semi owner and operator and leased to DRS.
Junior loved and considered it his honor to witness for his Lord Savior Jesus Christ. In this capacity he was a strong supporter of the Amish community helping transport them for many years and bridging the gap between the Amish and English communities. He managed the Cardinals in National Little League in Ottumwa for several years.
He was a member of Midway Calvary Baptist Church.
Surviving is his wife, Shirley; three sons, Dan Hare of Des Moines, Dennis "Dink" Hare of Bloomfield and Tim "Rabbit" (Shauna) Hare of Ottumwa; seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; a sister, Betty Veva Rose of Corning; his horse, Betsy and canine companions, Duchess and Muttly.
He was preceded in death by a son, William Edward Hare and an infant son, Bobby Hare and two sisters, Joann Hare and Myrtle Fiester.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Harold Baker officiating. Burial will be in the Floris Cemetery.
Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. Wednesday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Midway Calvary Baptist Church.
