Kay's Story

Linda Kay Huston, 76, of Des Moines, formerly of Ottumwa, passed away April 2, 2017 at Kavanagh House in Des Moines after a battle with cancer.
Kay was a devoted wife and loving mother of four, and had a lifelong passion for tennis, the arts and volunteering.
She was born on November 20, 1940 in Kansas City, KS and lived in Shreveport, LA and Oklahoma City, OK before moving to Ottumwa in 1956. Kay was a 1958 graduate of Ottumwa High School and attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, MO before graduating from the University of Iowa in 1962.
On August 13, 1962 she married Bernard K. Huston. Kay was a homemaker and was active in her community. She was a member of several clubs and organizations, including Irving Club (past president), Ottumwa Art Club (past president), Ottumwa Area Arts Council (past president), Ottumwa Public Library Board (past vice president and treasurer) and the Ottumwa Book Club. She was also a volunteer for Hospice Serving Davis & Wapello Counties. Kay was a member of St. Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church in Ottumwa and St. Ambrose Cathedral parish in Des Moines.
She is survived by her husband; four children, Barry Huston of Oak Park, IL, Kathy (Gregg) Owens of Spirit Lake, Joe (Kristen) Huston of Monterey, CA and John (Cynthia) Huston of Chicago, IL; and five grandchildren, Maureen Owens, Rebecca Owens, Thomas Huston, Anna Huston and Clark Huston.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin H. and Mary Alice Prather Kutnink, and a younger brother, Mark A. Kutnink.
Her body has been cremated.
Memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday April 10, 2017 at St. Mary of the Visitation in Ottumwa with Father James Betzen CPPS presiding. Inurnment will be in Ottumwa Cemetery.
A Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday April 11, 2017 at St. Ambrose Cathedral in Des Moines with Father John Bertogli presiding.
