Kenneth's Story

Kenneth "Ken" Richards, 71, of Bridgewater, South Dakota, passed away, Tuesday, July 25th, 2017 at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota surrounded by his wife and children.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, August 5th at Kory and Mary Derby's home at 317 Wildwood Drive, Ottumwa, Iowa.
Ken was born on November 11, 1945 in Oskaloosa, Iowa to Don and Neva Richards. He attended school in Albia, Iowa.
Ken was employed by John Deere and was a sergeant in the 224th Engineers unit of Ottumwa for over 10 years.
On March 29th 1986 he married Linda Denham in Ottumwa, Iowa. (Ken and Linda had been together since 1978) Later they moved to South Dakota where Ken began driving truck. He enjoyed truck driving and traveling the states before his retirement. He loved to hunt and go fishing. He was an avid gun enthusiast, enjoyed working on them and shooting them during hunting seasons. He also enjoyed his 3 dogs Minnie, Bennie and Abby and spending time with his children and grandchildren which he was extremely proud of.
Ken lived his life to the fullest each day and always had a great story to tell.
Ken is survived by his wife Linda, Bridgewater, SD; 4 children Missy (Paul) Sowden, of Des Moines Iowa; Melanie (Jeff) Danels of Oskaloosa Iowa, Jeff Denham of Des Moines, Iowa, and Mary (Kory) Derby of Ottumwa , Iowa; several grandchildren, his brother Jerry and wife Mary of Hampton, Iowa and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Neva and Don and grandchild Charlie.
Ken lived a wonderful life and thank you to all who made it so.
