Leslie Buchholz, 98, passed away on February 14, 2017 at his home in Flower Mound, Texas. He was born on December 7, 1918 in Floris, Iowa to Bernard and Edna (Orman) Buchholz. He graduated from Ottumwa High School in Ottumwa, Iowa in 1936. He joined the U.S. Army in 1944, serving his country for 2 years in World War II, earning the Good Conduct Medal and a dispatch to Officers Candidate Training School.
He worked for John Morrell Company as a millwright and welder for 35 years, while also working as a full-time farmer, producing corn and soy beans on his farms in Southeast Iowa. He retired to the Fort Myers, Florida area in 1976 and then to Lewisville and Flower Mound, Texas in 1990.
Leslie married Ella Ruth Ruby on June 22,1940 in Ottumwa, Iowa. They were happily married for 76 years. Leslie was a member of the American Legion and the Northview Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing throughout his life and was accomplished on the river, lake and sea.
Leslie was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Edna Buchholz; his 7 sisters, Clara (Hopkins), Edith (Tipling), Olive (Wilson), Agnes (Arendt), Bonnie (Snook), Patricia (Owens) and Dorothy (Grey); 5 of his brothers, Cecil, Floyd, Ernest, Robert and Don; and his great grandson, Phillip Randall Baird.
Leslie is survived by his wife Ella Ruth; his brother Gene; his daughter Linda (Phil) Baird and his son Larry (Marilyn) Buchholz; his grandchildren Scott Baird, Randy Baird, Kenton Buchholz and Regina (Carroll); his great-grandchildren Holly Baird, Paxton Baird, Brody Baird, Taylor Buchholz and Shelby Powell; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A visitation will be held at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home 740 S. Edmonds Lane, Lewisville at 6:00 to 8:00 on February 16.
A memorial service will be held at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home, 740 S. Edmonds Lane, Lewisville, Texas at 10:00 am on February 17. Burial will follow at Old Hall Cemetery 1200 McGee Lane Lewisville., TX.
