Lucille's Story

Lucille Illene Hootman, 91, of rural Floris passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday evening, February 5, 2017. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 10, 2017 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Cranston Family Funeral Home in Eldon, IA with Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating. Visitation, with the family present, will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held in the Glasgow Cemetery immediately following the service. Memorial contributions in Lucille's honor may be directed to the family, and sent care of Cranston Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 10, Eldon, IA 52554. Lucille Illene Hootman was born October 21, 1925 in Davis County to Emmett and Jessie "Carbaugh" Hewitt. Lucille grew up in Davis County and attended Center No. 5 school in Salt Creek Township and Eldon High School. She married Junior Jacob Hootman, the son of Jacob and Bessie Canady Hootman, on December 22, 1943 in Leando, IA. They lived in Ottumwa, IA until moving to their farm in Davis County in 1955, a couple of miles from where she was born and raised. Lucille was a homemaker and stay at home mother. She also was a 26 year member of the Ottumwa Farmers Market. She enjoyed her flowers, bird watching, gardening, canning, reading, crocheting and crossword puzzles.
She is survived by six children; Mike (Coleen) Hootman of Bloomfield, Twyla Hootman of Floris, Craig (Nancy) Hootman of Ottumwa, Sandra (Mike) Keller of Fairfield, Lance Hootman of Floris, Melanie Hootman of Floris, and a son-in-law Tom Engel of Radcliffe, IA; eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, three step grandchildren, seven step great grandchildren; two brothers, Charles (Kathy) Hewitt of Monroe, IA and Keith (Cathy) Hewitt of Ottumwa, IA and one sister, Janice (Francis) Sullivan of Newton, IA, as well as many extended family and friends.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband of almost 72 years, Junior Jacob (2015); her parents, a daughter, Linda Engel; one grandson, Wade Hootman; a great grandson, Graham Engel; four sisters, Flavena Mallory, Eloise Hewitt, Virginia Ashmore, and Mary Alyce McSparen, as well as six brothers, Arlo, Roscoe, Donald, Elwood, Rex, and Cecil Hewitt.
