Margaret Huber McGuffey, 96, passed away in Orlando, FL on January 18, 2017. Born July 26, 1920 in Eldon, IA to parents George and Cecil Selman Huber, Mrs. McGuffey attended Blakesburg High School, where she played on the girls' basketball team and excelled in academics. She went on to graduate from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After graduation, she taught high school English in Blakesburg, and later in life she taught English once again at the Tehran American School. A member of Blakesburg Christian Church, Mrs. McGuffey was also proud of her memberships in Alpha Chi Omega sorority, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Officers Wives' Club. She and her husband Lt. Colonel Darrell McGuffey finally retired in Winter Haven, FL in 1972, after residing on Air Force bases in Louisiana, Nebraska, and New Hampshire.
Mrs. McGuffey is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Darrell, her son John, and her sisters Deloris Thayer and Polly Gavin. Survivors include son Michael (Nancy) McGuffey of Orlando, FL; daughter Lynne ((Goff) Howard of Atlanta, GA; and granddaughters Deborah and Katherine. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 6th at 1:00 PM at Blakesburg Christian Church, Blakesburg, IA. Mrs. McGuffey's family welcomes friends and family to join them in remembering Mrs. McGuffey.
