Margie LaVonne Bitner, 88, of Ottumwa, died June 18, 2017 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
She was born February 1, 1929 in Kirkville, IA to Ernest and Betty Ethel Brown Carnes. On April 6, 1947 she married Keith Morain and he preceded her in death on March 17, 1967. She married Gene Bitner on February 7, 1998 and he preceded her in death on May 16, 2004.
A 1947 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Margie was a graduate of Vennard College. She worked as a licensed practical nurse for 25 years.
She was a member of Trinity Church of the Nazarene where she taught Sunday school and belonged to the Missionary Society.
Surviving is a step-daughter, Sharon Armbruster of Oskaloosa; a step-son, Alan Bitner of Ottumwa; a grandson, Dustin Beterstein; a sister, Patty Annis of Ottumwa; a brother, Robert Carnes of Ottumwa; sister-in-law, Virginia Carnes of Ottumwa; niece, Diane (Steve) Dallner and other nieces, nephews and family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Craig Morain and a brother, Richard Carnes.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Mark Eigsti officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Church of the Nazarene.
