Mary's Story

Mary C. Ebelsheiser, 89, of Hedrick died January 6, 2017 at her home.
She was born March 13, 1927 in Fairfield, IA to Ray and Ethel Stiles Barr. She married Dean Ebelsheiser on June 24, 1944 in Ottumwa, IA.
A resident of Hedrick most of her life, she was employed at United Federal Savings Bank 23 years. She retired from the Oskaloosa branch in 1994 where she was manager for 18 years.
Mary enjoyed spending time with her family, babysitting with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her hobby was filling collage frames of high school graduations, weddings and anniversaries with the announcements, pictures, ribbons, etc. She made and gave away over 50 of them. At age 57 she joined the Hedrick Granny Squad cheerleading for the boys basketball games and performing at various events.
Surviving are her husband, Dean of 72 years; three sons, Ron (Vicki) of Casa Grande, AZ, Dan (Chris) of Tracy and Rick (Kathy) of Ottumwa; three daughters, Joyce Handy of Urbandale, Cheryl Copeland of Hedrick and Vickie (Neal) Loes of Ames; 5 granddaughters, Michelle Wymore, Julie Handy, Krista Keesling, Laura Smith and Alyson Vosberg; 6 grandsons, Jason and Douglas Ebelsheiser, Ryan Loes and Joel Loes, Steven and Craig Copeland; 28 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Brenda Ebelsheiser and Amy Ebelsheiser; a son-in-law, Dick Handy; two brothers, Luther and Carl Barr and a sister, Florence Woolums.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hedrick-Martinsburg United Methodist Church with Pastors Tim Schoepf and Bill Hornback officiating. Burial will be in Brooks Cemetery in Hedrick.
Visitation will begin after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hedrick Quick Response & Fire Dept. or Hedrick-Martinsburg United Methodist Church.
