Norland Vinson Smith, 81, of 2631 N. Court Rd., died at 3:20 a.m. February 27, 2017 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
He was born May 14, 1935 in Ottumwa to Harold and Isabelle Watts Smith. He married Shirley Jones on September 19, 1953.
A 1953 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Norley had worked at Meadow Gold Dairy before working for 36 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works. He retired as inspector in 1996.
He attended Trinity Church of the Nazarene.
He umpired high school baseball and was an active coach in the American Little League while his sons were growing up. Norley loved fishing.
Surviving is his wife, Shirley; two sons, Jim Smith and Jeff (Lisa) Smith; three grandchildren, Jimi Leann Smith, Lindsey Jo (Ben) Ebert and Jentri Smith and a great-granddaughter due to be born in March.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Roberta Brown; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Darlene and Jimmy Jones.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Eigsti and Pastor Bill Hornback officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Thursday with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Church or the Nazarene or First Church of the Open Bible.
