Pamela Ann Carlson, 60, of Ottumwa, passed away at 8:05 p.m. January 26, 2017 at Kavanagh Hospice House in Des Moines surrounded by her family.
She was born June 10, 1956 in Ottumwa to Patrick J. and Wilma J. Frase Murray. She married Kenneth Steven Carlson on June 25, 1977.
A 1974 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Pam earned her degree in nursing from Indian Hills Community College. She had worked at St. Joseph Hospital, Ottumwa Regional Health Center and in home health care.
She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Pam was a social advocate, and helped with animal rescue. She was a care taker who kept busy helping others, including her mother and mother-in-law.
Surviving is her husband, Ken; her children, Heather (Ryan) Carlson-Hutchinson of Windsor Heights, Chad Carlson and Ashley Carlson both of West Des Moines; a granddaughter, Eliana Hutchinson; her siblings, Terry Murray of Des Moines, Daniel (Chris) Murray of Cummings, John Murray of North Carolina, Cathy Rempe (Herb Greenfield) and Andrew (Kristy) Murray both of Ottumwa.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Patrick Hilgendorf presiding.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home. A Christian Wake will be held at 5 p.m. Monday followed by family visitation until 8 p.m. Monday.
Memorials may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church, Kavanagh Hospice House or John Stoddard Cancer Center in Des Moines.
