A tall dude with a big smile and a bigger heart.
Patrick was born in Waterloo, Iowa on August 28, 1950 and attended St. Edwards grade school. He graduated from Walsh High School in Ottumwa, and attended college in Ottumwa, Burlington and Iowa City.
A skilled carpenter who built and remodeled homes, his journeyman travels took him all across the US from California and Colorado, to North Carolina and the Florida Keys. He sailed up and down the mighty Mississippi, and for the last few years found his way back to Iowa.
Patrick used his building skills to also create wonderful pieces of art. From waterless fish tanks, to bird shelves, to spiraled metal flowers, his artistic vision was truly whimsical in nature.
With a booming laugh that could be heard for miles, playing games and telling stories with Pat was always a favorite past time. He loved the outdoors and was a voracious reader. Need a Santa for the kids during holidays? Patrick was your man...bushy beard included.
Patrick's remains will be interred at Resthaven Cemetery West Des Moines. He is preceded in death by his parents Lester and Mary Kathleen Donahue, and his grilling buddy Steve. He is survived by his siblings: Michael (Patricia), Mary Yochum (Steve), Timothy (Elise), Carol, Diane. His nephews: Christopher (Jennifer) Donahue, Matthew Yochum and niece Hanna Reichler. Also grand nephew and niece: Joshua and Zoey Donahue.
His art, friends, family and memories will be at a Celebration of Life gathering at the General Store Eatery, Valley Junction, 206 5th St, West Des Moines Iowa May 27th from 12:30-3:30 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice Johnston IA.
